Remembering

Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.

A powerful reminder of our mortality on this Ash Wednesday.

There is promise in that reminder, though.

From death, God brings new life.

Blessings to you on your Lenten journey and may you find new life in returning to God.

“Return to the LORD, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”

~Joel 2:13

Wednesday, Feb 1

St John Lutheran will be having regular scheduled activities this evening.

Worship on Wednesday, at 6pm, will be a prayer and healing service.

“The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part, the parts we mention and the parts we don’t, the parts we see and the parts we don’t. If one part hurts, every other part is involved in the hurt and in the healing.” ~1 Corinthians 12:25-26

Come and See!

When was the last time you received an invitation? To a Christmas Party, a birthday party, a baby shower, a wedding, etc…?

It was exciting, wasn’t it? An event- and YOU are invited! You know that whoever sent you the invitation thought specifically of you and wanted YOU to be there.

This Sunday, I have an invitation for you. Come and See. Come and see what God is doing here and everywhere.

Who do you want to invite to join you? You can you share the excitement with? Who are you thinking about that would just love to hear from you?

Invite someone. And Come and See.

PS. It’s Camping Sunday- and it will be great fun as we celebrate the ministry of camp! Come and See!

Friends,

Tonight I am giving the devotion for our council meeting tonight. My inspiration comes from a book I read over and over while growing up. Maybe you’ve read it- “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”. Recently, I discovered a children’s illustrated version of the story.

If you haven’t read it, I encourage you to find a copy. The story is about a family of children with a troubling reputation who appear at church and want to be a part of the Christmas Program. Having never heard the Christmas story before, they are filled with questions, awe, and suggestions on better gifts the wise men should have brought.

As we at St John are preparing for Christmas and for the Christmas program, this story is a wonderful reminder to listen to the Christmas story with new ears this season.

It’s also a reminder that even if things don’t turn out just the way they always have this year… maybe instead it will turn out to be the best Christmas pageant ever.

Advent Blessings,

Pastor Elizabeth

Have you clicked on our “Flickr” link on the right side of the page lately?

We have updated and added a bunch of pictures from the last few months. Take some time to look through the pictures.

If you have some pictures of ministries happening at St John, be sure to send them to Pastor Elizabeth- and then look for them on the website!

Are you looking?

Where have you seen God today?
